Day Habilitation Programs
Without Walls Day Programs (WOW) are community-based, person-centered programs that focus on developing fundamental living skills, socialization skills, and recreation skills. The individuals participating have access to many different technology programs and systems throughout their day at the program. We utilize a visual scheduling program that creates the daily schedule. Each person can see which group, activity, and staff member they are scheduled with for the day. Without Walls program participants perform volunteer services in their communities to build meaningful relationships with store owners, local senior citizens, and outreach agencies, allowing them to participate daily in activities as valued community members. We volunteer with Meals on Wheels, work with local law offices, stock shelves at local thrift stores, recycle bottles and cans, collect food items for local food pantries, and more.
Recreational activities for individuals are based on what interests they would like to explore in our local community, including gym memberships at the YMCA, Therapeutic Horseback Riding, art and music therapy classes, bowling, movies, amusement parks, apple picking in the fall, and much more.
These WOW programs are based out of Project FAME in Poughkeepsie,
Petals from the Heart in Poughkeepsie and Warwick and Club ATLAS WOW in Warwick.
Petals from the Heart
WE BELIEVE IN THE HEALING POWER OF FLOWERS
Petals from the Heart program came from the realization that beautifully arranged flowers are often discarded after only a few hours of use. The basis of the program is to repurpose gently used floral arrangements into fresh floral bouquets and to deliver them to others to spread cheer! For many, a lovely floral arrangement provides a sense of joy and appreciation. Our goal is to give back to our community by sharing small acts of kindness through the power of flowers.
Petals from the Heart program is run by the Without Walls Day (WOW) day habilitation group. This program offers so much for those participating and receiving, and it is an excellent opportunity to learn so many valuable and transferable skills in a manner that brings so much joy to others. Club Atlas and Project FAME, both participate in this program.
This is one of our volunteer programs that is based out of Poughkeepsie and Warwick.
Project FAME
