Residential Services
Greystone Programs offers residential services for adults with autism and other developmental disabilities in New York. Their homes provide round-the-clock staff support and focus on a person-centered approach. They use CQL and ABA to help individuals achieve their goals and become more independent.
The Greystone House, pictured to the right, opened in 1979. It was the first group home in New York State for people living with autism. This groundbreaking program was the first to provide residential support in a community environment. It was the first time people were taken out of traditional "institutions" and instead offered to live in beautiful homes that were warm and welcoming. The following year, Greystone Programs opened its' next home, and in the years since, the organization has continued to grow, pushing itself to become even better. After much hard work, we have received esteemed accreditation through the Council on Quality Leadership (CQL), recognizing our focus on a person-centered approach to support and services for every person.
Since 1979, Greystone has opened additional homes and supports adults with autism and other intellectual/ developmental disabilities (I/DD) in three counties: Dutchess, Orange, and Ulster.

Our homes are as uplifting as they are functional. We provide round-the-clock staff guidance and support to ensure everyone can live their best lives. A life that is full of growth, fulfillment, and joy. Our job is to enrich each person's life, one person at a time, using the principles of CQL.

Greystone Homes operate under the Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) and are called Individualized Residential Alternatives (IRAs). The services provided are individualized to meet the unique needs of each person living there. This individualized environment allows each person to live a life that is meaningful to them. One that will enable them to become as independent and fulfilled as possible, utilizing innovative technology to promote self-growth and individuality. The beautiful Hudson Valley provides many opportunities that we are fortunate to enjoy. Participating and integrating into our communities is very important, and we ensure each person is included by exposing them to new and exciting opportunities and those things we know they enjoy.

Greystone Programs currently has 17 homes in the Hudson Valley. All our homes are for adult men and women, and four offer barrier-free living, which affords each person living there the freedom to live in a home that fully meets their needs. The Universal IRA, the Salt Point IRA, and the Pleasant Ridge IRA, all in Dutchess County, and the Orchard View IRA, in Ulster County – are thoughtfully designed to accommodate people who use wheelchairs. Our other homes are Amenia, Hyde Park, Pawling, Poughquag, Stanfordville, Staatsburg, Wappingers Falls (Dutchess County), Monroe, Montgomery, and Warwick (Orange County).
We have numerous supportive apartments and Independent Supports and Services (ISS) apartments. This residential option is designed for adults who choose to live more independently in the community and do not need constant support and supervision from Greystone staff members. ISS individuals still receive assistance and support from our staff with everyday living skills such as finances, transportation, and health-related needs.
All the residential supports offered are individualized to meet each person's goals and dreams using a person-centered planning approach through CQL and Advanced Behavior Analysis (ABA), an evidence-based, scientific approach to teach people skills needed to become more independent in the home and the community. ABA is the basis for teaching and supporting people to increase their communication, socialization, daily living, and vocational skills. This allows us to ensure each person lives the life they choose.
In September 2021, Greystone Programs welcomed six young adults to our newest and 17th home, Grants Path, Poughquag, NY, with state-of-the-art SMART technology. These individuals participate weekly in expressive arts programs like music, art, and equine therapy. We have witnessed them grow towards their goals and live full lives, leading them to additional opportunities for greater independence and ongoing fulfillment.
